Gifted Education is an important part of the Henderson Mill Curriculum. We firmly believe that each student is gifted in his or her own way. We work to allow each student to demonstrate his/her passion and talents throughout our school day as well as during our after school events and evening/weekend activities.

Approximately 17% of our population qualifies for our Gifted Program, called Discovery throughout the elementary schools in the Dekalb County School District. Students are eligible for Discovery beginning in 1st grade but must be found eligible according to the district criteria. At Henderson Mill those high achieving and gifted qualified students who show proficiency in one or more subjects are consistently grouped together during the school day and are provided extensions to and acceleration of the curriculum by a gifted certified teacher. The teachers are active participants in our Gifted Department. The goal of the Gifted Department is to provide meaningful experiences which enhance students' creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and citizenship, to spark students' learning and fuel their passion.
